Al Fresco Dining

When the weather finally gets better (apparently there’s a heatwave on the horizon?) and the sun begins to shine on our beautiful countryside, what better way to soak it up than with a lunch, coffee or drinks en plein air?

We’re lucky to have so many beautiful venues on our doorstep that offer great al fresco areas. We’ve picked our favourite day time spaces that are perfect for a breezy breakfast, a lunchtime glass or rosé, or lazy afternoons brightened by the thought of a sharing platter, ice cold beers and a handy kids playpark.

THE HUB

Bodiam

Re-opened after a winter hiatus, the Hub is back and offering all-day dining in its fun, expansive grounds and quirky barn. Head there all week for moreish brunch favourites, healthy lunch bowls and filling snacks, or book in advance for their high tea, or the special tiddler’s tea for little ones. Kid and dog friendly, a stone’s throw from Bodiam castle and with its own vast playpark and on-site animals, The Hub is the ideal spot for a family al fresco treat.

DEER PARK CAFE

Eridge

A beautiful destination all year round, with a log burner and beautiful forest cabin vibes, Deer Park Cafe really comes into its own in the Summer. Surrounded by fields and a popular glamping site, the bucolic setting is perfect for Sunday Brunch (try the Italian baked eggs) or a home made cake and cuppa during the week. Their afternoon tea can be elevated with a glass of Rathfinny and their seasonal supper clubs are chance to sample some local produce paired with wine and cocktails.

EGGS TO APPLES

Hurst Green

Eggs To Apples is one of the area’s most popular farm shops. It’s impossible to leave without spending half a week’s wages on all manner of beautiful produce, flowers, wines and biscuits that you most certainly didn't go in for. It’s also a great place for a coffee or spot of lunch. Behind the shop is a beautiful outdoor seating area surrounded by herb gardens (where you can snip your own) and grass for the kids to play on. Grab a toast stuffed with deliciousness, or one of the deli salads or bakes on offer while soaking up the rays. Then try to leave the shop empty handed!
